Hollywood & Vine Cellars Short Ends 2012

Winemaker's Notes:

This lovely combination shows bright raspberry, boysenberry and slightly jammy blueberry fruit, along with a slight tone of warm baking spices (nutmeg, cardamom) and spiced plums. At entry the wine shows a broad, juicy entry, followed by a warm soft mid-palate. Although the flavors are dominated by those ripe purple tones so evident in the aromas, there are also base notes of walnut and sandalwood that show in the flavors, especially as the finish slowly fades.

Recruiting one of the most talented winemakers in the valley, Celia Welch, H & V released it’s first vintage in 1998 to glowing reviews. Read less

Rating: 93/100 - As reviewed by Connoisseurs' Guide to California Wine (www.cgcw.com) in the August 2010 issue. Young and highly concentrated aromas favoring raspberries with a hint of black currant join forces with caramel and hardwoods smells in the outgoing aromas of this attractive effort. Supple in feel and somewhat polished given its tender years, this one has plenty of fruit and richness in reserve. Not surprisingly, its latter palate shows considerably more of the coarse tannins that one would expect, and the recommended path is to find it a quiet cellar in which it can sleep a bit.Connoisseurs' Guide to California Wine aging recommendation: Cellar for future drinking. Wine will improve with bottle aging.
