What to Expect

Riesling is a chameleon of a grape, able to produce world class wines that range from bone dry to unctuously sweet. Germany is most closely associated with Riesling, where all styles are made and the range of flavors runs the gamut from steely and crisp with crunchy mineral-driven flavors to fresh lime, apple and peach flavored expressions - even rich honied, candied fruit tones in the great dessert wines.

Green gold color, just a tiny bit of petrol at the beginning then peach and pineapple, nice acidity, something a little floral maybe honeysuckle, off-dry not super sweet, nice finish.

Every year some of The Hogue Cellars' finest Riesling vineyards stand head and shoulders abovethe rest. They chose several of these vineyard blocks, earmarked them for Genesisand picked them at the optimal ripeness. What resulted is a beautifully balanced, intense Riesling. Rich and crisp, the wine has aromas and flavors of orange, grapefruit zest, peach and lush pineapple. The balance between its racy acidityand moderate sweetness makes the Genesis Riesling wonderful as an aperitif ora delicious complement to spicy Southeast Asian dishes such as chicken satay.

Wine Tasting NotesEvery year several of our finest Riesling vineyards stand head and shoulders above the rest. Typically, these lots are earmarked for Hogue Late Harvest White Riesling, but for our inaugural vintage of Genesis Riesling, we chose several of these vineyard blocks, earmarked them for Genesis and picked them at the optimal ripeness to make a drier style of wine. What resulted is a beautifully balanced, intense Riesling with aromas of ripe mandarin orange, clove, pineapple, jasmine and apricot. Rich and crisp, this wine has citrus and stone fruit on the palate. The balance between read more...

Look: Pale/straw yellow
Nose:
Taste: Light body; medium, forward acidity; mild green grape and musky flavor; with a nice, even finish.

I just had the Genesis 2006 Riesling by Hogue. The body of the wine tastes crisp on the tongue but the nose has the sent of a petrol based product. If one does not smell the wine you get a nice clean taste that fills the mouth with joy. But, if you smell as you taste then ... you get the feeling of gas spilled into the grapes as the wine was made.

medium bodied, tasted like a chardonnay rather than a riesling; maybe they added too much sugar? i'm not sure.
