The 2009 Chardonnay displays that classic balance. The wine offers spicy and rich aromas of nutmeg, pear, pineapple, and creamy butterscotch. On the palate, the wine is complex and balanced, with vanilla cream, toast, and fresh, crisp apple. The Chardonnay is an excellent match for crab salad, roast chicken, pork tenderloin, or quiche.

A crisply rendered, well-crafted effort form this reliable producer, this is a ldquo;fruit-forwardrdquo; (as the winery likes to say) mix of citrus, apples and spicy oak. Young and somewhat tight, it has the balance and the acid support for further aging.

Ripe and generous with its fruit character, redolent of pears, gooseberries and spice, with a lime edge on the broad finish. A great deal from one of Washingtonrsquo;s largest producers. Drink now through 2004.

For people looking for chardonnay it's got everything; this is the sort of wine that would work in every state in the country. That fleshy mouthfeel, that bit of tropical fruit. It's a crowd-pleaser. It's the right white for a cocktail party, or a ham and gruyère panini.

Hoguersquo;s lowest-priced Chard is reliably clean fruit and appley, with firm acids and no frills. It does have some snap to the acids, a characteristic of Washington Chardonnay, and that sets it up for a food-friendly finish.
