Hochheimer Kirchenstück "Erstes Gewächs" Riesling Trochen 2009

Winemaker's Notes:

Fast explosives Bouquet, strahlende, teilweise exotische Frucht. Viel Fülle und Rasse, enorme Länge und Dichte, leicht salzige Noten, wieder üppige, frische Frucht am Gaumen. Grosser Riesling!

Of the three grape varieties cultivated by Künstler, the main one by far is Riesling. Only the warm location of ‘Reichestal' meets our exacting climatic requirements for a noble Spätburgunder , and only on a very small plot in the east of the Hochheim area does the soil meet the prerequisites for our Chardonnay. Numerous Awards confirm our selection of grape varieties year after year. We have successfully competed in national and international competitions and wine sampling for years now and present our wines to critical experts and the specialist press year after year. The following is a selection of current prizes awarded to our wines. The history of our wine estate is primarily a family history, because it is the people who avail of the ideal location of our vineyards who create the incomparable quality of Künstler wines. This philosophy is not only reflected in every detail of the craft, from the vineyard to the cellar, but ultimately also in the facts and figures. The wine growing tradition of the Künstler family can be traced back to Unter-Tannowitz in Southern Moravia in 1648. After the Second World War, the Künstlers had to leave their home in what is now the Czech Republic and the head of the family, Franz Künstler, laid the foundations in Hochheim for what was to become one of the most successful family businesses in the Rheingau. Since that time, the wine estate has produced concentrated, minerally dry, very fine and elegant Riesling wines that are among the best in Germany. His son Gunter Künstler bought the Geheimrat Aschrott'sche Erben wine estate in Hochheim in 1996 and in doing so acquired a major share in the very best vineyard locations such as Domdechaney, Kirchenstück, Hölle and Stielweg in Hochheim. These vineyards – most with established vines 50–60 years old – are a unique and invaluable guarantee of Riesling quality that has yet to meet its match. Weingut Künstler has received countless national and international awards and is a member of the VDP/Association of German Prädikat Wine Estates. Read less
