Hob Nob Vineyards Pinot Noir Vin de Pays d'Oc 2011
HobNob is a wine brand out of California that was launched in 2007. The wines are packaged with post-modern, sleek label designs and faux corks, with a hip spin-the-bottle theme on the company’s website. The wines are specifically marketed to 21-34-year-olds, with an emphasis on “social style,” affordability and approachable taste.
Rich and fruity, opens up after contact with air for a few minutes, develops a finish of chocolate and raspberries, pleasant and a bit sweet for a Pinot Noir possibly blended with a small % of shiraz? For $11 it's a good value.
Appearance: Nearly black but upon swirling bright red/fuchsia are revealed lurking the edge. Nose: Clear with a muted caramel sweetness and sharp citrus. Barely a whisper of dusty soil. Mouthfeel: Thick and drying, entices me to sip again and again. Taste: Chalky/dry, fruit aspects are merged with a brine-y and spicy heat on the way down. Finish: At first the throat is dried, then the fruit makes itself known. A coffee esque moisture reforms and begins warming my palette. Very long finish. 7.5/10 Not my thing but it is indeed good!
