Hob Nob Vineyards Pinot Noir Vin de Pays d'Oc 2007
Brendan's Buzz Rated 91 This was a real surprise for me. Finding a great Pinot Noir for under $10 is like the Holy Grail of wine buying, and we did strike gold with the Hob Nob. This Pinot Noir from the South of France has enticing flavors of cherry, earth and spice with a medium body and nice finish. I was very happy to find my new house Pinot Noir. The Hob Nob Pinot Noir is a real winner!
HobNob is a wine brand out of California that was launched in 2007. The wines are packaged with post-modern, sleek label designs and faux corks, with a hip spin-the-bottle theme on the company’s website. The wines are specifically marketed to 21-34-year-olds, with an emphasis on “social style,” affordability and approachable taste.
RiceSelect's creamy Arborio gets blended with sweet potato, coconut milk and vanilla to create this decadent cheesecake. Pairs well with Saunternes; a white dessert wine that has hints of coconut from aging in oak barrels.
I first encountered this wine on a "By the Glass" menu at a local restaurant; usually not a huge Pinot Noir fan, but a friend had it and commented on the bouquet, so, of course, I sniffed along with her. A bit of strawberry, violet and vanilla/oak - smelled delish! Upon tasting it was more full and round in the mouth than other Pinots I'd tried. For a French Pinot It is very "New World" in style (fruit prominence and usage of oak...) But, I quite enjoyed it and thought it well worth the $8 by the glass price point. I discovered it in a grocery store later on and snatched up several bottles for $10. Worth the price in my book.
Interesting nose of berry sorbet and bubblegum. Cherry throughout. Delicate mouthfeel. Cherry driven, but an interesting green apple crisp acidity on the back end. Nicely balanced.
This was nice but nothing special in my book. If you are looking for something cheap to get you through the night it will definitely work. It had a nice light ruby look to it, with the legs running down rather quickly. The nose had a fruity/berry smell to it, and the feel was a smooth light/med body with no tannins. There was no acidity in the taste but definitely could taste the cherry. Finish was disappointing as it was there but not for very long.
Excellent! Paired this recently with some mildly spicy Indian food, and it was a match made in heaven. Fruity, but not too sweet, this is a terrific French Pinot Noir...even better when one looks at the price!
Really nice French Pinot, with prominent notes of spice, currant, and raspberry. Very well-balanced, and a steal at the price.
Very enjoyable! Complex nose-- violets, green, celery, sweet-tarts, light, crisp vanilla. Light, crisp taste with cherry, floral and peppery notes. More complex than I expected from a pinot noir priced @ $12.99.
Smooth to the tast and Great price
