I had never tried an NZ pinot and this one is impressive. Very well balanced and a classic Pinot taste to me. I am going back for a few bottles for my stock.
External Reviews for Highfield Marlborough Pinot Noir
The 2007 Pinot Noir has a lovely ripe plumy nose with cranberry and raspberry leaf. Nice definition and real lift from the glass. Smooth entry, fine tannins, real cohesion and weight with polished oak melding it together. A modern style of Pinot Noir with svelte finish. This is a very well-crafted Pinot Noir. Polished, focused and poised on a razor edge of lively acidity, this delivers oak-framed berry and spice flavors with pizzazz. Finishes harmoniously. Drink now through 2015. 1,000 cases made. -HS Medium red. Ripe strawberry, plum and smoked meat on the nose. Plump, supple and a bit one-dimensional, with flavors of smoked meat and spices dominating the palate. The easygoing finish offers sweet tannins.
We are as delighted with Highfield's Pinot Noir as we are with their Sauvignon Blanc, probably because both are full of Old World charm. The texture is streamlined - rather than viscous from excessive alcohol - and the wine has a Burgundian berried gaminess to it that we're smitten with. This is fantastic with duck.
