Hexamer Riesling Quarzit Meddersheimer Rheingrafenberg 2009
Handcrafted fruit-driven wines of terroir. Anti-varietal in the best sense, the same way that Condrieu isn’t merely viognier; the best from the Rheingrafenberg are wines of deep site-character as rendered by riesling. Splendidly mineral wines into which fruit of great charm is interwoven. Fresh, with exceptional purity.
Bought this for around $15 on sale, and enjoyed it a lot. Nice typical sweet Riesling taste, plus some extra character due to the quartzite which gives it a light mineral touch and bubbliness. A class better than Dr. Loosen (the cheapest Riesling in the US that doesn't suck), but also typically $10 more expensive. Definitely buy this is you see it for $15 or less, but consider it for up to $20 if you want to spend that much.
