Hexamer Meddersheimer Rheingrafenberg Riesling Quarzit 2014

Member Review by tsts:

Bought this for around $15 on sale, and enjoyed it a lot. Nice typical sweet Riesling taste, plus some extra character due to the quartzite which gives it a light mineral touch and bubbliness. A class better than Dr. Loosen (the cheapest Riesling in the US that doesn't suck), but also typically $10 more expensive. Definitely buy this is you see it for $15 or less, but consider it for up to $20 if you want to spend that much.

This plush style shows ripe peach, apricot and baked apple flavors, with hints of anise and lavender. Long, spicy finish. Drink now through 2018.

Surprisingly less vivacious and razor-sharp than many a previous rendition but still loaded with succulent fresh lime and pear, Hexamer’s 2010 Meddersheimer Rheingrafenberg Riesling Quarzit offers overtones of honeysuckle and mint, finishing persistently and with a bit of extraneous sweetness (although Hexamer has been dialing that back in recent years). Part of this wine, incidentally, fermented spontaneously; part was yeasted. Enjoy it over the next 6–8 years.

QbA from a parcel on quartzite, this is big-boned stony mineral wine, forward and overt.
