Hess Estate produces top rated Cabernets for their Hess Collection line from their 300 plus acres of vineyards on Mt. Veeder in Napa Valley. This wine is unique to the Collection as it is a meritage style blend of 6 different grape varieties, all sourced from their Veeder Summit Vineyard on the very top of the mountain. Nineteen individual blocks from this 116 acre vineyard are vinified separately and then blended together to showcase the quality, character and diversity that Mt. Veeder fruit can express. The blend of 69% Cabernet Sauvignon, 11% Malbec, 10% Syrah, 5% Merlot, 3% Petit Verdot, 2% read more...Cabernet Franc is then aged 18 months in French oak barrels 50% new. Tasting Notes - Aromas of mocha, brown sugar, and dark chocolate wrap around a core of mountain blackberry. Cedar and cassis follow as secondary aromas. The palate is well balanced with berry flavors and spice. While displaying classic mountain concentration, fine grained tannins provide a smooth finish.

Just scored 92 points in Wine Enthusiast Magazine. They said "A very fine wine, basically a Bordeaux blend except with a splash of Syrah, which adds a meat and violet flower note to the ripe, powerful black currants. New oak shows up in the smoky, cedary overlay. It's a tannicly dry wine, in the way of Napa mountain Cabs, but so balanced and refined, you can drink it now. Should develop through 2012."    (hide)

Bright cherries on the nose with a body of well-balanced ripe red fruit. Tastes like a cab but with less sweetness. For me it's a little too well blended and nothing in particular stands out for me.
