I could drink this all night long. Good representative mountain cab at a reasonable mid-$30's price point. Caramel, chocolate, coffee with soft tannins on the finish.

Bright cherries on the nose with a body of well-balanced ripe red fruit. Tastes like a cab but with less sweetness. For me it's a little too well blended and nothing in particular stands out for me.

Hess Estate produces top rated Cabernets for their Hess Collection line from their 300 plus acres of vineyards on Mt. Veeder in Napa Valley. This wine is unique to the Collection as it is a meritage style blend of 5 different grape varieties, all sourced from their Veeder Summit Vineyard on the very top of the mountain. Nineteen individual blocks from this 116 acre vineyard are vinified separately and then blended together to showcase the quality, character and diversity that Mt. Veeder fruit can express. A blend of 68% Cabernet Sauvignon, 14% Malbec, 11% Syrah, 6% Merlot, 1% Petit Verdot aged 19 months in 58% new French oak. Wine & Spirits Magazine scored it 93 points saying "The scent of pinesap and the cool spice of cardamom place this on Mt. Veeder. In fact, the blend is based on cabernet sauvignon from the Veeder Summit Vineyard, rising to 2,000 feet, and includes malbec, syrah, merlot and petite verdot. While the texture is as sleek as satin, the flavor complexity lies in the firm structure, lifted by peppery spice. It’s a clean, rich red to decant for rack of lamb."

A core of 19 blocks from our highest altitude estate vineyard comprises this proprietary Cabernet blend. The Veeder Summit Vineyard, with altitudes ranging from 1,300 to 2,000 feet, is distinguished for its steep slopes and volcanic soils and produces intensely flavored, complex wines. Each varietal in the blend has been matched to a specific vineyard block resulting in a wine that exemplifies the best expression of the vineyard each vintage. The 2009 19 Block has aromas of cedar and black licorice. A rich entry of black cherry and ripe plum is supported in the mid-palate by oak nuances of vanilla, caramel and graham cracker. A long, silky finish of polished tannins suggest immediate approachability but the wine will continue to improve over the next 3-4 years. - WineryBlend: 63% Cabernet Sauvignon20% Malbec9% Syrah7% Merlot1% Petit VerdotAging: 19 months in French Oak (60% new)Alcohol: 14.2%pH: 3.91TA: 0.56g/100mL ** SOLD OUT **
