Hess Estate produces top rated Cabernets for their Hess Collection line from their 300 plus acres of vineyards on Mt. Veeder in Napa Valley. This wine is unique to the Collection as it is a meritage style blend of 5 different grape varieties, all sourced from their Veeder Summit Vineyard on the very top of the mountain. Nineteen individual blocks from this 116 acre vineyard are vinified separately and then blended together to showcase the quality, character and diversity that Mt. Veeder fruit can express. A blend of 68% Cabernet Sauvignon, 14% Malbec, 11% Syrah, 6% Merlot, 1% Petit Verdot aged 19 months in 58% new French oak. Wine & Spirits Magazine scored it 93 points saying "The scent of pinesap and the cool spice of cardamom place this on Mt. Veeder. In fact, the blend is based on cabernet sauvignon from the Veeder Summit Vineyard, rising to 2,000 feet, and includes malbec, syrah, merlot and petite verdot. While the texture is as sleek as satin, the flavor complexity lies in the firm structure, lifted by peppery spice. It’s a clean, rich red to decant for rack of lamb."
