Smoky and oaky on the nose with assertive vanilla, pineapple, candied lime zest, Clementine, and bay leaf notes. Very focused on entry with a tight core of sweet pineapple and papaya fruit that opens across the mid-palate filling the mouth. The acids keep this from feeling too big and help add definition to the tropical fruit and citrus flavors on the backend. The finish is a bit short and subtle, though the mouth is left with a nice, papaya, hazelnut and vanilla flavor. A classic rendition of California Chardonnay, in a slightly toned down style. This should work fairly well with a broad range of foods and seems well suited to accompanying grilled chicken. 88pts

A lush, opulent Chard marked by oaky aromas and flavors. The underlying flavors are of tropical fruits, enhanced with vanilla, buttered toast and smoky spices. Drinks very rich and flamboyant; a show-off wine.
Spicy, floral and perfumed, with hints of pear, nectarine and tangerine, shaded by light oak, making it elegant and delicate in style. Drink now through 2005.
Intense, concentrated and tightly focused, with a creamy mouthfeel to the lively layers of citrus, green apple, melon and herb scents. Shows a hint of mineral and spice on the aftertaste. Great length and persistence. Drink now through 2010.
Grapes for this wine come from Hess' Suscol Vineyard located in the southern part of Napa Valley, near the Napa city limits. Winemaker David Guffey combines a selection of seven rootstocks and nine clones of Chardonnay to come up with this bottling, which blends richness and refreshing acidity. The wine was aged 33 percent in new French oak, along with 1- and 2-year-old barrels.
Filled with golden, ripe fruit, this wine is soft and plump. It has a waxy warmth and a hint of acidity that will melt right into a cheese soufflé.
Rich and multilayered, with a mix of spicy fig, toasted almond, hazelnut and vanilla. Finishes with a complex aftertaste. Drink now.
