Hess Allomi Cabernet 2012
The Allomi Vineyard is relatively young, and it has one thing that Cabernet Sauvignon surely loves: some heat, and a long, lingering growing season that allows fruit to ripen slowly on the vine, gaining complexity and layers of flavor. There's a hint of floral aromas on the nose, with vanilla, oak spice and even a touch of pepper. Full bodied red fruit flavors typical for Cabernet are joined by notes of currant and blackberry with moderate, well-integrated tannins with wonderful balance and a soft, round, almost lush mouthfeel. Distinctive accents from American oak complete the profile, surely one of Napa's great treasures from Pope Valley. Food Pairing: Earthy flavors enhance the fruit flavors in this wine, especially with foods such as herb roasted chicken, grilled pork, caramelized onions, eggplant, sautéed greens, roasted potatoes or vegetables and aged Jack and Gouda cheese.
Editorial Reviews for Hess Allomi Cabernet
Shoe polish, bay leaf, small black fruits, oak, roasted herbs, thyme all are layered on the nose. This is smooth and rich but also hollow. There’s plenty of extract to work with but this is either closed or just remarkably lifeless with plenty of ripe fruit flavors that just sit on your tongue. The finish is drying and tannic, if very chocolaty and long. 84pts
This 2010 of Cabernet Sauvignon from Napa Valley, California is good. Deep ruby-red color with a mid-rim variation. Fruit notes of Black Currants and Bosyenberry with a hint of mocha, cinnamon and tobacco. It has a long finish on the palette with mid acidity. This wine has not peaked and will mature nicely over time (2018-2020). Best served chilled to 64 degrees, double decanted and served with a mid-rare bone-in lamb chop dish.
Four and a half glasses
This wine is rich and earthy with an aroma of dark berries and sage and has a very nice mouth with gentle tannins leading to a nice finish. The winemaker’s notes say this wine can hold for 8 to 10 years.
Very good. Paired well with our buffalo filets.
Tasted at UNLVino 4/10/10
This is my go to wine when I'm looking for a Cab in the $20-25 range. Nice concentrated flavors, mocha and chocolate flavors linger like you typically see from mountain cabs. I recommend decanting to let it open up.

The 210-acre Allomi vineyard lies in the gently rolling hills of northeastern Napa Valley, where the combination of a typically long, warm growing season and well-drained soils create optimal ripening conditions for Cabernet Sauvignon. Sustainably farmed, in each vintage, winemakers evaluate the grapes and select only the finest components for the final cuvée. The 2012 vintage could easily be described as textbook. Budbreak, flowering and set proceeded without a hitch, and there were no heat events or early season crippling frost. The result was an abundant harvest with fruit that brought smiles to everyone’s faces. A blend of 88% Cabernet Sauvignon, 10% Petite Sirah and 2% Petit Verdot aged 18 months in 24% new American oak barrels. In was recently rated 94 points by Beverage Dynamics Magazine. They said "This single vineyard Cabernet from one of the Valley’s best known wineries is full of rich black and red fruit; dark ruby in the glass, with plenty of richness on the nose and palate; hints of spice and tannin provide backbone for the fruit to surround; the finish is well balanced, and quite lengthy." Dont' Miss It!
Aromen: Reife Pflaumen, Lakritze, Zedernholz, Korinthen und Toast. Gaumen: Zuerst schwarze Kirschen, gefolgt von fleischigen Pflaumen. Gut strukturierter Cabernet: tief, konzentriert, mit reifen Gerbstoffen, nachhaltig. Ein Napa Valley Klassiker!
Dunkles Kirschrot mit Purpurreflexen. Im Aroma schwarze Beeren (Kirschen), frische Minze, Leder, Zedern, Lakritze und Mokka sowie der unaufdringliche Barriquesgeschmack.
Sleek and tight, with ripe, spicy, minty dried currant and blackberry fruit that offers a subtle mix of mineral and nutmeg, ending with dry, cedary tannins. Drink now through 2011.
A good Cab, if a little sharp and angular. Shows pleasantly ripe flavors of blackberries, black cherries, cocoa and plums, with some sweet green herb notes.
Winemaker Notes - Dark black with red hues, this wine is full-bodied with rich flavors of chocolate covered cherries, ripe plum, cassis and spice. Subtle hints of vanilla and nutmeg yield to the dominant fruit characteristics, ending with a long elegant finish.
Appealing for its supple fruitiness, the mix of plum, black cherry and wild berry fruit is polished and complex. The tannins are ripe and integrated and the finish keeps repeating those flavor themes. A great buy at this price. Drink now through 2009. Tasted twice, with consistent notes.
