Hess Allomi Cabernet 2012

Winemaker's Notes:

The Allomi Vineyard is relatively young, and it has one thing that Cabernet Sauvignon surely loves: some heat, and a long, lingering growing season that allows fruit to ripen slowly on the vine, gaining complexity and layers of flavor. There's a hint of floral aromas on the nose, with vanilla, oak spice and even a touch of pepper. Full bodied red fruit flavors typical for Cabernet are joined by notes of currant and blackberry with moderate, well-integrated tannins with wonderful balance and a soft, round, almost lush mouthfeel. Distinctive accents from American oak complete the profile, surely one of Napa's great treasures from Pope Valley. Food Pairing: Earthy flavors enhance the fruit flavors in this wine, especially with foods such as herb roasted chicken, grilled pork, caramelized onions, eggplant, sautéed greens, roasted potatoes or vegetables and aged Jack and Gouda cheese.

The 210-acre Allomi vineyard lies in the gently rolling hills of northeastern Napa Valley, where the combination of a typically long, warm growing season and well-drained soils create optimal ripening conditions for Cabernet Sauvignon. Sustainably farmed, in each vintage, winemakers evaluate the grapes and select only the finest components for the final cuvée. The 2012 vintage could easily be described as textbook. Budbreak, flowering and set proceeded without a hitch, and there were no heat events or early season crippling frost. The result was an abundant harvest with fruit that brought smiles to everyone’s faces. A blend of 88% Cabernet Sauvignon, 10% Petite Sirah and 2% Petit Verdot aged 18 months in 24% new American oak barrels. In was recently rated 94 points by Beverage Dynamics Magazine. They said "This single vineyard Cabernet from one of the Valley’s best known wineries is full of rich black and red fruit; dark ruby in the glass, with plenty of richness on the nose and palate; hints of spice and tannin provide backbone for the fruit to surround; the finish is well balanced, and quite lengthy." Dont' Miss It!
