At the gateway to the Central Coast wine region, Herzog Wine Cellars in Oxnard, California, is a testament to the Herzog family’s commitment to making great wine. The new winery, designed with our Special Reserve wines and small-lot winemaking in mind, combines state-of-the-art winemaking technology with a hands-on approach to artisanal winemaking. Also at the winery is Tierra Sur Restaurant, serving seasonal Mediterranean cuisine for both lunch and dinner.
Lovely and full wine that is great with barbecued beef. Full Cabernet nose and body with subtle spice and hickory smoke from Syrah. Brandied strawberries, oak and cherry on nose. Slight sweetness on finish.
At first was only 3 stars, but improved after 15 minutes in the glass. Nose had cedar, cherry and olives. Viscous and chalky in mouth, with notes of pepper. Finish was maybe a little too tight. This wine may drink better next year.
