Food Pairings for Heron Terra Alta Sexto
Full-bodied and dry. Cherry, sweet, smokey vanilla and cranberry on the nose. Bold flavors of black cherry, rubber, grape and leather on the palette. A great finish raspberry, cinnamon and cherry. There was a fair bit of tannin still in the wine, so I'd be curious to taste this in a few years (or maybe a 2004?!) This wine made a surprisingly good pair with slices of roasted pork shoulder sauteed in rosemary oil with a rich pork gravy, mashed red potatoes and steamed green beans. From the label: "Garnacha 33%, Carignan 30%, Tempranillo 20%, Lledoner Pelut Noir 6%, Cabernet Sauvignon 6%, Syrah 5% 'Sexto' means 'Sixth' in Spanish. It was the sixth grae I added - the obscure Lledoner Pelut Noi - that made all the difference. Sexto captures the traditional taste of Spain with a decidedly modern twist. Enjoy."
this was a good wine...not for the closed minded.
"Sexto is a blend of six different Spanish grapes, Grenache, Carignan, Tempranillo, Syrah, Cabernet Sauvignon, and the ancient grape Lledoner Pelut Noir. In fact, it was the addition of that sixth varietal (a cousin to Grenache) that made all the difference for me. I wanted to make a wine that is at the same time original, traditional, and has a modern twist." --winemaker notes
