What to Expect

Cabernet Franc, along with Sauvignon Blanc, is a parent of the more famous Cabernet Sauvignon. Quite similar in many ways to Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc tends to have higher acid and lighter tannins than its offspring, with fruit in the redder end of the spectrum and a distinctive, aggressive herbal note that can dominate the wine's aromas.

Winemakers Notes

Wine Characteristics

Medium-bodied and layered with cassis, coffee, and cedar notes that promise to mesh well together with age. Originally the vineyard was planted to 95% Cabernet Franc and 5% Merlot to be the basis for this wine. Upon closer inspection we have identified a number of Cabernet Sauvignon vines planted amongst the Cabernet Franc, perhaps a mix-up at the vine nursery. We have determined by walking the vineyards that there is about 12-15% Cabernet Sauvignon planted.

Strong woody smells (cedar or oak) with that vanilla tobacco smell I've come to love from great Cabernet Francs. Definite brown fruit tastes, spicy notes, suprising acidity, and young tanins. Even as a 2006, the color is excellent, and it would seem that this bottle might even get better in a few years.
