Editorial Reviews
Beefy, hay, dry grass, farm, meadow, black pepper all contribute to a very complex nose that takes on a feminine, perfumy aspect. This is precise is precise focused and perfectly balanced. The fruit is lovely red raspberry toned with a hint of astringency coming from the fruit tannin. The wine evolves quickly in the glass revealing wonderfully complex tones that accompany the transparency of the fruit. This has real cut on the palate that gives it great inner mouth tension. Superb Syrah at this price point 91pts

Reviews for 2006 Vintage
A clear deep opaque purple colored wine with a purple rim - little variation between rim and core. A medium+ viscosity wine with stained tears that point to a wine made from grapes with thick skins and/or a hot climate.
A clean medium intensity youthful nose with aromas of raspberry, blackberry, tobacco, earth, wet leaf, meat, black pepper and a touch of oak.
A dry wine with medium+ acidity, medium+ body, medium+ alcohol, medium+ tannins, medium+ intensity blackberry, meat, leather, cherry herb, smoke and black pepper flavors. A textured wine with medium+ length.
This young medium complexity wine has balance and a medium+ length. Good quality ready to drink now (or over the next 5 years) thanks to its well-integrated tannins. A Cotes du Rhone with plenty of Syrah
I love Chave's wine - both the St Joseph and the Mon Coeur Cotes du Rhone are excellent, lovely bouquet and smooth. And, they're 1/10 the price of his Hermitage (at least up here in Vancouver).
One of the oldest and most respected names in French wine, Chave continually garners high praise for the excellent Northern Rhone wines it produces. Founded in 1481, and passed from father to son ever since, the domaine is now headed by young Jean-Louis Chave, a graduate of UC Davis' prestigious oenology program. Chave owns vines in 9 of the 18 vineyards that cover the Hermitage hillside. Keenly aware of the different dynamics fruit from different parcels can have, Jean-Louis pays close attention to the terroir-influences when selecting fruit for this, his top cuvee. He uses little to no oak on his wines, believing that the innate character of the fruit is what makes a truly great wine. In this vein, he intervenes with filtering or fining minimally, if at all. The 2006 Rouge is a masterful wine, close but with years to improve. Deep and complex, with supple tannins and fine structure.
