M. Chapoutier Hermitage Blanc Chante-Alouette 2014

External Review:

Salted butter, chamomile, lemon rind and white peach notes course along, inlaid with honeysuckle and verbena notes. The long, mineral-driven finish harnesses everything, letting bitter citrus and almond accents linger. Drink now through 2022.

M. Chapoutier:
The name CHAPOUTIER is present in the Rhône Valley since 1808. In 1879, the distant ancestor Polydor CHAPOUTIER was the first to begin to buy vines, thus moving from the status of wine-grower of an estate to that of a viticulturist, a wine producer and a businessman. The pioneering spirit was already present in the family.

A wine reviewed last year, the 2012 Hermitage Chante Alouette comes from three separate parcels on Hermitage Hill; Meal, Les Murets and Chante Alouette. I rated it identically this go around, but it’s such a fabulous wine I decided to include it again. White peach, white flowers, honeysuckle, brioche and tropical notes all emerge from this stunning white, and while it’s not cheap, it represents a smoking value. Don’t miss it.

Here is a absolutely delicious Chapoutier Hermitage Blanc, Made with 100% Marsanne this wine is lush, rich with a loads of tropical fruit and honey on the front palate moving toward a delicious mineral and acidic structure with notes of flint stones.

Wine Advocate ReviewThe 2003 Ermitage Chante Alouette blanc is more honeyed than the 2004, and seemingly more fragile, but intense and full-bodied. It reveals notes of hazelnuts, honeysuckle, white currants, quince, and butter. This fat white should be drunk over the next 3-5 years. Drink 2006 - 2011.Wine Tasting NotesBrilliant golden green. Complex and subtle aromas of quince, walnut, honey, ginger and accacia with a hint of lime blossom. Almond. Very elegant and good length.
