Riesling-obsessed connoisseurs know how important Hermann J. Wiemer Vineyard's pioneering work is to wine. Hermann, born in Germany with an extensive wine family background, discovered the Finger Lakes in the 1960's, and its cool climate and gravelly soil reminded him of the Mosel Valley. Realizing the untapped potential of the Finger Lakes region, he started to grow classic European vines along selected sites on one of the most prominent properties in the Finger Lakes. Hermann J. Wiemer Vineyard estate grown wines are established from traditions of excellence and have a reputation for being exceptionally lush, crisp and well balanced. Hermann J. Wiemer Vineyard is founded on the philosophy of quality and hand crafted wines. Located on the shores of Seneca Lake, the well drained sloping shalestone bedrock and Honeoye silt loam soil lend itself to the production of what critics consider to be some of the best grown Rieslings in America. The newest vintage from Hermann J. Wiemer does not disappoint. This beautiful, light-bodied Riesling truly exemplifies what Riesling is all about: grapefruit, lime and orange blossom mingle with tropical and floral notes. At 0.9% RS, there’s the slightest touch of sweetness on the finish. German quality for New York pricing!

This dry riesling is focused on fruit — key lime, passion fruit, ripe apple and pear. The flavors are generous and taut at once, creamy in the middle with tree-fruit richness jolted by citrus. Great for just chilling, or to serve with sand dabs.

There’s an intense minerality throughout this dry, elegantly structured wine. It’s boldly concentrated with yellow peach and quince flavors, yet chiseled with streaks of lime acidity, lanolin and steel. Finishes long with a fragrant spray of honeysuckle.

Ripe, with creamed Jonagold apple, dried quince and anise flavors laced with heather and orange blossom notes. Displays excellent range and a juicy feel. A slightly forward style overall. Drink now through 2015.

A tremendous performance, this riesling exhibits a tension between the round, warm peach accents and a darker herbal presence. While the fruit is exuberant, conveyed by a turbinado sugar sweetness, somehow a fierce minerality reins it in. The wine becomes elegant, with a heady, peach-inflected finish that lasts far beyond the sweetness.

Fresh and engaging, with apple, pine, fennel and green melon notes leading to a crunchy, lively edge on the finish. Drink now through 2014.
