Kremstal, AustriaHermann Moser Gruner Veltliner Karmeliterberg is a beautiful white wine gem that shows off this signature white varietal of Austria. Weingut Hermann Moser is run by Martin and his wife Carmen Moser. The estate is 300 years old and is located in the village of Rohrendorf in the Kremstal wine-growing region in Lower Austria. The vineyards cover 19 hectares and are the best vineyards from Rohrendorf. The Gebling vineyard is mainly planted on terraces; it is on a steep slope located north of Rohrendorf reaching towards Krems. The soil is one of the highest loess sediments in Europe. The grapes were hand harvested in mid-October 2010. The juice was fermented at 19 centigrade in stainless steel tanks and bottled in March 2011 to preserve optimum freshness. Hermann Moser Gruner Veltliner Karmeliterberg is light yellow in color with hues of green. The wine shows fruit, smoke and pepper on the nose with hints of spices typical of Gruner Veltliner, aromatic herbs and yellow fruits. Crisp and balanced with medium body, it is dense and complex on the palate with flavors of quince, apples, pears and mineral notes. It is drinking beautifully now and will be good for another 8-10 years. The finish is long and satisfying.Enjoy Hermann Moser Gruner Veltliner Karmeliterberg as a lovely aperitif wine and with grilled halibut, lobster, roast chicken, summer salads and spicy Asian dishes.
