Hermann J. Wiemer Semi Dry Riesling 2016

External Review:

HJW is definitely my favorite producer in New York State and this wine embodies what I love about them: using old world techniques they produce some of my favorite whites. Their Semi-Dry Riesling IS my favorite wine. A gorgeous nose gives way to floral aromas and lemon zest. Medium-bodied; the entry is sweet but balanced well by the acidity. Plenty of citrus in this wine; it finishes off-dry. A nice compromise when palates collide.

Riesling-obsessed connoisseurs know how important Hermann J. Wiemer Vineyard's pioneering work is to wine. Hermann, born in Germany with an extensive wine family background, discovered the Finger Lakes in the 1960's, and its cool climate and gravelly soil reminded him of the Mosel Valley. Realizing the untapped potential of the Finger Lakes region, he started to grow classic European vines along selected sites on one of the most prominent properties in the Finger Lakes. Hermann J. Wiemer Vineyard estate grown wines are established from traditions of excellence and have a reputation for being exceptionally lush, crisp and well balanced. Hermann J. Wiemer Vineyard is founded on the philosophy of quality and hand crafted wines. Located on the shores of Seneca Lake, the well drained sloping shalestone bedrock and Honeoye silt loam soil lend itself to the production of what critics consider to be some of the best grown Rieslings in America. Apricot and peach aromas with some butterscotch. Some residual sugar, nice acidity, enjoyable minerality, little slice of lemon, peach slight watermelon even. Refreshing and easy to drink

This Dry Riesling 2008 features an appropriate level of fruit flavor with refreshing crispness that lets the true qualities of the Riesling grape shine through. Hints of lime and orange blossom on the nose set the stage for a succulent palate of apricot and grapefruit. Definitively one of America's best Rieslings!!

This generous Riesling exhibits a subtle cross section of tropical fruits, litchi, passion fruit and peach. The flavors are rich and abundant, ideal for a spicy larb gai. (Thai chicken salad).

This has a slightly off-dry feel, with tasty green apple and pear notes backed by a slate- and floral-tinged finish. Flattering but balanced. Drink now through 2011.

Hermann J Wiemer Semi - Dry Riesling 2008Semi-dry Rheingau-style Riesling with a ripe, expressive nose of fresh citrus and floral notes. Nice texture and some sweetness balanced by complex minerality with a soft citrus finish.
