Hermann J. Wiemer Riesling Semi-Dry Finger Lakes 2014

External Review:

Remarkable power and intensity characterizes this ripe, honeyed wine. Off-dry in style, it’s round and rich on the palate with loads of luscious peach and apricot flavors, yet nuanced with layers of white blossoms, lavender and spice. Thoroughly enjoyable now for its floral, fruity exuberance, it’s structured enough to develop well through 2019.

Another great wine from HJW, my favorite New York State winery. This Riesling is awesome! Floral aromas give way to a citrus-laden palate. Medium-bodied, with an off-dry finish. Awesome potential in the coming months, give this new vintage a little time to age. Food pairing: Asian, seafood, spicy foods Flavor type: semi-dry Body type: light-medium Finish: crisp

“An odalisque of riesling,” said one taster, admiring this wine’s toasted lees scent accented by ripe peach and ginger. Its flavors are as plump and luxuriant as a sun-warmed peach, but the wine’s balance is the lasting impression, its mouthfilling richness cradled by finely expressed acidity. Buy a case for summer fish feasts.

A ripe, lightly spiced style, with a flash of mandarin orange giving way to plump yellow apple and melon notes. A flicker of tangerine chimes in on the finish. Ebullient. Drink now.

Wiemer always makes beautifully expressive riesling, and this vintage is no exception. The 2003 Semi-Dry is delicate and flowery-scented, with strawberry and peach flavors. A beam of juicy acidity offsets the sweetness and keeps the palate refreshed. Cheers to Wiemer, a German winemaking family whose more than 300 years of experience has certainly influenced the Finger Lakes' level of quality for the better!

This generous Riesling exhibits a subtle cross section of tropical fruits, litchi, passion fruit and peach. The flavors are rich and abundant, ideal for a spicy larb gai. (Thai chicken salad).
