Herman J Wiemer Blanc de Noirs 2003

Winemaker's Notes:

Wine Advocate #162 (Dec 2005) The attractive 2003 Cabernet Sauvignon Farella Vineyard (in the cooler Coombsville region) reveals loamy soil characteristics interwoven with black currant and cherry fruit notes. Opulent and medium to full-bodied with impressive purity as well as tobacco smoke, spice box, and earth notes, it should be consumed over the next 10-12 years. A new project of Juan Marcado, a former winemaker at Pax, and Mike Heiby, a former assistant winemaker at Behrens and Hitchcock, the Realm wines are produced at a winery on Spring Mountain. Classic Burgundian techniques are used to make these Bordeaux-styled offerings, including a 5-day pre-fermentation cold soak, extended maceration, some lees stirring, minimal racking, 20+ months in 100% new French oak, and no filtration at bottling. Some of the Realm production was stored in the Mare Island wine warehouse, which caught fire last October, but, hopefully, none of these cuvees were in that facility. these are comments on the 03 vintage which is much the same if not better

Riesling-obsessed connoisseurs know how important Hermann J. Wiemer Vineyard's pioneering work is to wine. Hermann, born in Germany with an extensive wine family background, discovered the Finger Lakes in the 1960's, and its cool climate and gravelly soil reminded him of the Mosel Valley. Realizing the untapped potential of the Finger Lakes region, he started to grow classic European vines along selected sites on one of the most prominent properties in the Finger Lakes. Hermann J. Wiemer Vineyard estate grown wines are established from traditions of excellence and have a reputation for being exceptionally lush, crisp and well balanced. Hermann J. Wiemer Vineyard is founded on the philosophy of quality and hand crafted wines. Located on the shores of Seneca Lake, the well drained sloping shalestone bedrock and Honeoye silt loam soil lend itself to the production of what critics consider to be some of the best grown Rieslings in America. Layered Rice Pudding

RiceSelect's fragrant Jasmati® is blended with eggs, milk and fall's favorite spices, cinnamon and nutmeg, to create a delicious rice pudding, which is layered on top of fluffy cream cheese and abuttery pecan crust. Pairs well with a bold, tawny port with flavors of dried fruits, nuts, and spices.
