Matured in 90% new, 10% used French (67%) and American (33%) hogsheads for 18 months prior to blending and bottling.
Deep crimson in colour with a purple hue. Powerful, ripe aromas of blackberry and plum with complexing hints of star anise, ferns, eucalypt and dark chocolate. - Muted compared to the 1996 and more evolved though in a minor key. Slight cheesiness and rusty nails quality. Sweet, almost syrupy start with slightly too little acidity to keep it appetising. Short.
