($41) Deep red. Powerful but exaggerated aromas of very ripe, spicy red berries, cassis and dark plum standing toe-to-toe with assertive, smoky oak notes of mocha and chocolate. A sumptuous barrel-fermented expression of ultraripe and concentrated dark fruits with complicating notes of smoked bacon and mocha. Thick, creamy and long; carries its considerable weight well. A successful example of a rather extreme style. (The Grateful Palate, Oxnard, CA)
