Food Pairings for Henry's Drive Pillar Box Red
Not something I would buy again, not worth the price
Very tasty and smooth.
Fruity & easy to drink. Great value.
First sip was surprisingly fruity, which I loved. Very easy to drink
Even lower-priced than the excellent 2006, the 2007 Pillar Box Red is another no-brainer bargain. Similar to the 2006 in power and structure, it's a blend of Shiraz, Cabernet, and Merlot with a rich and layered feel. More dominated by the Shiraz in 2007 than in 2006, there are big doses of blueberry and currant fruit, with subtle undertones of herbs, meat, and black pepper. Rich, long, still a bit sharp on the attack, but overall a remarkable deal in red wine. As the label says, it benefits from being decanted.
My Rating 87. This wine is fruity fullbodied blend of Syrah, Cab and Merlot from Australia. Nose is fruity with not much complexity. Taste is fruity with fine tannins. Is a good wine for the money
External Reviews for Henry's Drive Pillar Box Red
The 2006 Pillar Box Red is 50% Shiraz, 42% Cabernet Sauvignon, and 8% Merlot aged in a mix of used French and American oak. Purple-colored, it offers an enticing, fruity nose including aromas of cassis, black cherry, black raspberry, and blueberry. Full-bodied, ripe, and layered with flavor, this wine totally over-delivers on my hedonist?s meter. Drink this awesome value over the next 2-3 years. Pillar Box has a powerful pedigree; fruit sourced from Henry?s Drive and winemaking consultation from the renowned Chris Ringland. -Jay Miller October 2007
Black cherry and vibrant dark berry fruits provide a lifted perfume, combined with the peppery notes, toasted spice and hints of cedar. Complimentary musk and earthiness add to the complexity of the aromas in this wine. The palate shows opulent ripe, yet fresh blackberries with plum fruit, dark chocolate and liquorice characters; as well as a hint of spearmint. The wine is rich and full bodied, but has an elegant soft texture throughout and fine tannins that carry the fruit into a lingering finish.
