Henry's Drive Cabernet Sauvignon 1998

Winemaker's Notes:

Dark garnet. The fresh bell pepper notes that dominated the nose on this wine in its youth have turned to roasted peppers, with complementary forest-y sorts of aromas and a suggestion of nori, all making for a greenish cast that is actually quite attractive (to this Cab Franc-loving taster, anyway). Just a wee bit of warmth doesn't detract or clash. Rich, yes, but also dry; far drier, in fact, than the Cabernets Sarah and Sparky made for the Marquis-Philips label during this same era. Liqueurlike but not hot on the finish.

During the nineteenth century establishment of the farming and wine industries of southeastern South Australia, horse-drawn coaches provided the only transportation of mail and passengers. The coach service proprietor in this part of the state was a Mr Henry John Hill, whose operation drove directly through a property owned more recently by three generations of the Longbottom family of Padthaway. Routes were known as Drives, thus the family’s wine business is today known as Henry\’s Drive. Henry's Drive is situated in the Padthaway district of South Australia, around 180 miles south east of Adelaide. It is naturally cooler than the more northerly Barossa Valley or McLaren Vale, but warmer and more consistent than Coonwarra, some 50 miles south, with which it shares a similar, former sea-bed, geology. The property is owned by the Longbottom family, who have been farmers in Padthaway since the 1940s. Their first vintage was in 1998. Read less

Blackberry/cassis lovers can get an easy fix with the 1998 Cabernet Sauvignon. This wine is crammed with fruit, has low acidity, full body, and lusty, concentrated flavors that coat the palate. Alread... Robert Parker's Wine Advocate. A Cabernet Sauvignon wine from South Australia in Australia. 1998 Henry's Drive Cabernet Sauvignon 750ml
