Jancis Robinson
May 2008
My second favourite wine of the tasting. Light greenish gold and with a very slight whiff of mushrooms on the nose. Very direct and pure. Lovely clean hint of molten green fruit and nutty undertones. Very rewarding and complete. Tastes considerably more youthful than the c1780 above and just a beautiful drink. Limpid. Not spittable.

Drink with Food (sic - bottled in 1927) Like the Reserve Sercial noted above, this is from the same lot of wine as the one I reported on in tasting notes published March 2002, from the oldest stocks of Henriques & Henriques inherited in the mid 19th century so they could be more than 200 years old. Very pale green gold rim on brownish wine. Heady, gentle, caressing yet with an undertow of acidity and treacle/molasses. A really beautiful drink by any standards whatsoever. So gentle and nuanced. Quite amazing to think what was going on when this wine was made. Even more amazing that it has survived. I suppose read more...
