Henriot Brut Rose 2009

Winemaker's Notes:

Sensual and elegant, with a light pink colour, Brut Rosé is dominated by an intense, fruity nose and has a balanced palate with delicate red fruit notes. On the eye: Salmon pink with copper highlights. Fine, persistent effervescence. On the nose : Intense, complex and pleasantly fruity, the nose reveals aromas of red berry fruit (raspberry, strawberry) and freshly squeezed citrus fruit (pink grapefruit, mandarin), then light vegetal fragrances (blackcurrant buds) and floral scents (gillyflower, iris), finishing on delicious notes (candied fruit in particular) and mineral tones. On the palate : The palate offers lots of freshness and excellent balance in a harmonious aromatic register. Length is remarkable. Lovely balsamic and floral notes precede the spicy aromas that contribute freshness for a delicious finish.

She undertook the task of making available the very private Champagne Henriot in her father's vineyard in Bouzy and sold her wines under the name "Veuve Henriot Ainé". The House cultivates a very particular style, valuing time, patience, and the pursuit of perfection. It chooses the best wines from the best "crus", demanding the most careful work from the vineyard and cellar workers. The family’s knowledge of the terroirs and blending skill makes the wines of Champagne Henriot regognizable among all others. The style : Champagne Henriot is commmited to offering wines with a strong personality centered around the family’s philosophy of wine making. Read less

My first bottle of really good champagne in a long while, I thoroughly enjoyed every sip of this. Beautiful salmon-to-dark pink coloration with fine, creamy effervescence. Al the subtle, delicate berry flavors of pinot noir plus a certain (very light) woody character (tho I didn't think they aged champagne in oak?) that makes this an extremely "grown-up" and well-developed champagne. I happened to get this bottle for free...but I can see why people are wiling to pay up for the good stuff.

A powerful, vinous rosé, this presents rooty scents of beets and rhubarb that add a savory nuance to its ripe stone-fruit flavors. It finishes with lean intensity and a tight, floral restraint. Pour it with roast game birds.

Cherry-red scents meld into the smoky aroma of gunflint, with both tart fruit and light tannin playing out on the palate in a delicate and sophisticated wine. The flintiness strengthens the tannin in the end, suited to seared magret of duck.

A rich and toasty version, featuring roasted almond, brioche, honey and graphite notes. Vibrant acidity and a finely textured bead keep this mouthwatering and light-footed, carrying flavors of dried cherry, wild strawberry and licorice. Drink now through 2020.
