Henri Gouges Nuits-St.-Georges Premier Cru Clos des Porrets St.-George 2009

Winemaker's Notes:

"An attractively complex nose of black raspberry, plum and pungent earth introduces rich, round and fleshy medium weight plus flavors that possess excellent density but also relatively fine supporting tannins that add shape to the strikingly long finish."burghound.com

Suggested Recipe Pairing presented by
Coconut Rice Sweet Potato Cheesecake

RiceSelect's creamy Arborio gets blended with sweet potato, coconut milk and vanilla to create this decadent cheesecake. Pairs well with Saunternes; a white dessert wine that has hints of coconut from aging in oak barrels.

Very fruity on the nose with sweet, toasty oak notes lending this a bit of a candied black cherry aroma. With air, this does tighten up, showing a bit more raw oak. To a certain extent this smells fairly commercial. The candied fruit of the nose does come across on the palate as well, but this is rich, chunky and well structured, boding well for the future. The long finish is also a sign of things to come, all mineral and black-fruited, but the bit of stickiness I felt left me with some reservations. Is this Gouges today? 89 pts

Good deep red. Blueberry, blackberry, licorice, violet and menthol on the nose. Sweet, dense and chewy; a step up in concentration and power over the foregoing samples, with pepper and spice notes contributing verve. Has the mid-palate stuffing to su... Stephen Tanzers IWC.
