Domaine Henri Bourgeois:
White Sancerre LE CHÊNE SAINT-ETIENNE Brilliant golden yellow, it glisten by his sheen. The nose is powerful and very aromatic with notes of very ripe yellow fruits (even tropical fruits), vanilla and spices! The palate is round, full and powerful yet well-balanced. Serve this wine with great fish dishes or, even better, a “Côte de Veau Crémeuse aux Langoustines et Marjolaine” (veal cutlet with a langoustine and marjoram cream sauce). Red Sancerre LE CHÊNE SAINT-ETIENNE Bright garnet with red tints. A genuine basket of red and black fruits with hints of game and spice. On the palate, its ampleness and structure are surprising and the tannins are very well assimilated. Serve it with a beef tournedos with chanterelle mushroom even a few small games with red fruits. The trees of the “district of Saint-Etienne” have a fine and dense texture, owing to their slow and steady growth. Its characteristics were more especially imprinted in the Saint-Etienne oak tree due to its great age. In contact with this unique wood, the wine started a slow oxidation through the staves. The tannins given by the “oak” are of great finesse, become united in the greatest harmony to the precious liquid and awards wooden flavours of an unequalled softness. Read less

Les Baronnes is always reliable. Gooseberry, steely, grassy...somehow manages to be both somewhat opulent and nicelyl refined. Clean, bright and nicely textured from voluptuous fruit attack to mouthwatering lemon tang finish. Was awesome with two separate dinners: fancy pants mussels fettucini in a white wine and butter sauce, and cheap'n'easy comfort food, tuna melts with mac & potato salad. Very aromatic with pleasant flower and fruit fragrances recalling the flower of the vine and the fruit of the Sauvignon. With mild citrus and minerality, on the palate it reveals a freshness and vivacity characteristic of grapes harvested at good maturity. Drink this as an aperitif or pair it with fish (try a halibut steak in lemon butter), seafood and certain white meats.

There is neither anything ldquo;littlerdquo; nor ldquo;commonplacerdquo; about this wine from Henri Bourgeois, one of our favorite producers of quality Sancerre and Pouilly-Fumeacute;. If I were a betting man, I would wager that it is the child of young vines from the same vineyards that give birth to its two elder statesmen. It is barely disguised as a mini-Sancerre with tangy aromas and flavors of cut grass, snow peas and Granny Smith apple, and the vibrant minerality and acidity characteristic of wines of the Eastern Loire. At half or more the price of Sancerre or Pouilly-Fumeacute;, it is the perfect summer quaff, and would flatter a crab salad or shrimp on the Weber (charcoal, please!). My neighbor Robin, self-appointed wine review critic and reverse wine snob, might think Irsquo;ve been a poseur in this review, but, I assure him, I have meant every word Sancerrely.

Clean aromas of green melon, lime and sugar snap pea are brisk and unpretentious, making for an easy going accompaniment for grilled shrimp.

Mittelgelb, goldene Reflexe.
