Hendry Unoaked Chardonnay Napa Valley 2012

Winemaker's Notes:

"The Hendry Vineyard is located on bench lands west of the town of Napa. The vines grow on thin stony Boomer series soils between 200 and 300 feet above sea level. Morning fog and afternoon breezes from the San Pablo Bay moderatethe climate. This wine is a blend from our Block 9 (KD Selection), Block 19 (Dijon 96),Block 20 (Dijon 95), and Block 21 (Old Wente Selection). It was whole-cluster crushed and fermented entirely in stainless steel at a cold temperature top reserve the fresh fruit flavors. It was not allowed to go through malolactic fermentation and remained in stainless steel until bottling with a screw-cap closure. Soft, floral aromas of honeysuckle, nectarine and apple peels. Balanced and pleasant on the palate, with summer fruit flavors. The full, appealing palate and moderate acid of the pure, stainless-steel fermented fruit from all of our chardonnay blocks make this our favorite summer Friday wine. This wine is an eye-opener for those who only know chardonnay in the barrel-fermented form." -Winery

Hendry is a small estate winery located in the south-western Napa valley. Our 117 acres of vineyard lie on gently sloping terrain between 160 and 290 feet in elevation. Thin stony soils and moderate climate allow the production of a wide range of varietals. Most of this property has belonged to the Hendry family since 1939. At Hendry, we stress the importance of the vineyard, and we devote much of our time to understanding its variation on small scales. Combination of soil, climate, varietal and clone are critical, and for this reason, we have divided our vineyard into 50 different blocks, each managed separately. To us, every block is a learning experience that teaches us about interactions among these variables, and how they influence fruit composition and wine quality. Small changes in any of them can have dramatic effects on the wine. There has beem vineyard on this property for more than 140 years, and we have been farming here for nearly half that time. As our knowledge grows, our vineyard blocks evolve, and we get closer to understanding the full potential of our vineyard. Read less

RiceSelect's fragrant Jasmati® is blended with eggs, milk and fall's favorite spices, cinnamon and nutmeg, to create a delicious rice pudding, which is layered on top of fluffy cream cheese and abuttery pecan crust. Pairs well with a bold, tawny port with flavors of dried fruits, nuts, and spices.

Pretty tart and acidic. Goes a little too far, could use a hint of oak... Definitely a unique style, and there is good fruit in there.

San Francisco Wine Enthusiasts Guild tasting panel: tastes like it was oak chipped, vanilla aromas, sweet oak flavors, mesquite, vanilla, some lime, fantastic nose.

Hendry is a small estate winery located in the south-western Napa Valley. They have divided their 117 acres into 50 blocks, each managed separately. They treat each block as a learning experience that teaches them about the interactions between soil, climate, varietal and clone, and how they influence fruit composition and wine quality. This chardonnay has complex aromas of stone and tropical fruits, oak and spice. Full mouthfeel, despite the lack of malolactic fermentation. Creamy and nutty multidimensional palate, with mango and custard, biscuit and mineral. Long, finish with cleansing acidity.
