dark ruby red color, slight funky earthy berry nose, nice texture, some cherrycola and blackrasberry notes. fairly long finish some acid not to overpowering though. 14.5% alcohol but wasn't all that intense. good long finish.
This is a great wine for 2010, ready to drink and sure to impress. It is a full bodied red that brings an elegance to a simple meal and class to a moment requiring ambiance. Great color, texture and nose. This is from an extremely consistant producer who, for sure in the 2004/2005 vintages, has not dissapointed. As a person that prefers bigger wines this is right in the wheel house. Hold it for the fall /winter times later this year.
Complex, deep and bold, this wine should open up over the next 5-10 years and be remarkably complex. Some people scoff at the idea of holding on to $50 wines for any length of time, but I can assure you this wine will be worth drinking down the road. Heitz knows how to make a cab, and this is one has powerful fruit and oak overtones with a subtle texture of spice and espresso. Deep red color with great legs, this wine is a meal in itself, or paired well with pasta.
Love this wine! Not real subtle, I suppose. The flavor is dark cherry with a vanilla hue. Sort of like a chocolate cherry cordial. To my taste, the wine is still not quite at its peak. Maybe a couple more years until it reaches its apogee. Until then, I'm catching just a bit of acid and tannin that outlives the fruit in the finish, what one reviewer probably described as metallic. Not a significant detractor even now, but the best is yet to come.
Full bodied as expected from a Heitz, smooth, consistent, classic, mature, perfectly matched with a bone-in strip

The 2005 Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon captures the perfection of this exceptional vintage. This is a wine with a striking varietal aroma that quickly engages the senses and then delivers on its promise. It is brimming with dark cherry flavor, notes of vanilla and a touch of dried spice. Nicely balanced with bright acidity, this wine moves smoothly across the palate to an elegant finish. One sip will definitely lead to another with this Cabernet! It is irresistible now, and it will continue to age gracefully. - Winery ** Only 1 in Stock **
Lots of earthy currant, anise, cedar, plum and tarry flavors are rich and concentrated. A muscular style that turns tight and tannic. Best from 2002 through 2008.
Excellent richness, concentration and range of flavors, with firm, spicy currant, black cerry, pencil lead and minty-cedary notes, finishing with a tight grip from the tannins. Best from 2004 through 2012.
Bright brick red appearance. Medium-bodied. Moderately extracted. Mildly tannic. Cassis, mineral, mint, dried herbs. Subtle herbal, minty aromas lead a solid, full-flavored palate with a firm minerally backbone and the hint of firm tannin on the finish. Plenty of character.
Solid Cabernet, with a core of rich, earthy currant and berry flavors and hints of cedar and spice on the finish. Drinkable now, though the tannins are a bit chewy, but best from 1998 to 2004.
Heitz is a family-run winery that has been operating since the early 1960s, making classically styled wines that are at once both subtle in flavors and layered in complexity. This wine showcases the long growing season with dense dark cherry and currant fruit and a core of bright acidity. Vanilla and spice notes frame the wine, with well-integrated, fine-grained tannins to knit it all together. Drinking well already, and sure to offer pleasure for many, many years to come.
The Heitz Napa Valley Cabernet is a stunning wine from the vintage everyone has talked about. Deliciously concentrated and gracefully classic the flavors continue to unfold and mesmerize on this voluptuous Cabernet. The wonderful balance of smooth rich ripe varietal characteristics are so enjoyable...a winner.
