Heart & Hands Winery Dry Riesling 2014

Winemaker's Notes:

Owned and operated by Tom and Susan Higgins, Heart and Hands Winery is located on the east side of Cayuga Lake about 200 meters from the shoreline of Carrs Cove. Originally from the Finger Lakes, Tom got his introduction to wine working at vineyards in high school. After college and a brief stint in the tech industry Tom returned to his first passion, working with Josh Jensen at Calera in California where he developed a deep appreciation for Pinot Noir. Tom returned to the Finger Lakes with his wife Susan and launched Heart and Hands in 2008. Interestingly, the estate vineyard is situated on a unique lakeside parcel of Onandaga Limestone Escarpment, making it some of the best terroir for Pinot Noir in the Finger Lakes. Focused solely on two varieties Riesling and Pinot Noir, Tom and Susan's minimalist approach to winemaking preserves the iconic identity of each variety while expressing the defining characteristics of each vineyard site. All grapes are hand-picked and hand sorted. Gravity flow production methods minimizes the need for pumping and preserves all of the subtle nuances of the final product. Wines are fermented in small batches separated into single vineyard lots which allows them to craft wines that express the unique sense of place inherent in each.

Heart & Hands Wine Company is located in a serene setting overlooking the eastern shore of Cayuga Lake. We are committed to producing cool-climate wines which authentically express the unique character of the Finger Lakes. Our production is quite small - currently under 800 cases, which allows for an intense focus on quality. Our intent is to produce food-friendly wines, and we offer several wines crafted from Pinot Noir and Riesling grapes for your enjoyment.
