Hearst Ranch Winery Merlot Paso Robles Pico Creek 2009

Member Review by hbwinegirly:

The 2007 “Pico Creek” exhibits classic Merlot features. Dark garnet in color; the stage is set with aromas of dark black cherry and vanilla. Underlying subtle aromas of black pepper, clove, and cinnamon dance in the glass. The attack consists of bright strawberry and cherry flavors balanced with racing acidity and ripe tannin that taunts the palate. “Pico Creek’s” earthy finish has a showcase of raspberry and pumpkin spice in the backdrop. Big fruit, tannin, and great acid calls for the 2007 “Pico Creek” to be paired with flank steak or filet mignon grilled over an open fire. This Merlot also tempts and pleases the taste buds when paired with sharp cheeses.

All of our wines are given a specific name, significant to the Hearst legacy. The story behind each one is as important as the wine itself and helps influence its namesake. "Pico Creek" flows year round out of the hills just south of the tasting room, and is notable land mark for the people of the Central Coast.
