The press on this wine was glowing, and each bottle of wine was worthy of every word in print. Peter Haywood has been making the finest Zinfandels on the planet for nearly 30 years and this is one of this best. Deep purple in color; currant, blackberry, and strawberry in the nose; very clean strawberry and soft tannins on the palate; and long and foreboding with a berry and vanilla swash in the finish. It's almost Bordeaux-like; the cherry, blackberry, and blueberry fruit is absolutely stunning. These wines can be cellared for 15-20 years easily.

The 2005 and 2006 are both Sensational. Gave it a 4.5 just to give Peter Haywood room to improve.

This classic Zinfandel is made from fruit grown in the fractured rock terraces of Los Chamizal Vineyard on the Mayacamas Mountains, located high above the Sonoma Plaza. Aromas of spicy black pepper, cassis and mocha perfectly complement the bold fruit essences of cherry and baked plum apparent in Haywood Los Chamizal Zinfandel. Lush, concentrated flavors of sun-ripened berries and chocolate-covered cherry are softened by a touch of creamy oak on the mid-palate. The mouth-filling texture and velvety tannins lead to a long, smooth finish.
