Hawkes Chardonnay Home Ranch 2006
We farm our Chardonnay grapes in a 39-year-old vineyard on Chalk Hill Road on a tributary of the Russian River. Our 2006 Chardonnay is not oaky or creamy. It has no residual sugar, does not undergo malolactic fermentation and does not see any new oak. It is aged sur lie for about 7 months in neutral Hungarian oak barrels. This is a white wine meant to be crisp and refreshing and to express the beautiful taste and smell of fresh fruit from a region known for great Chardonnay. Bottled June 2007, 920 cases produced, 14% alcohol.

This is a single-vineyard, unoaked Chardonnay from the Chalk Hill district. This white is left on the lees to develop a rich, concentrated mouth feel. Just delicious!
This is not a heavy, oaky, creamy Chardonnay. It is delicate. It is refreshing. What oak it was given is meant merely to complement the fresh, clean aroma of citrus, particularly grapefruit. It has no residual sugar, underwent no malolactic fermentation, and has noticeable, sprightly acidity.
