Racy and sweet with depth of perfume on the nose. Good balance of sweetness and power, with flower, chocolate, fruit, and soil throughout the palate. Medium finish. 91 points.
In Bordeaux tradition, a white was tasted last in a string of 2008 tastings. Beautiful floral nose. Rich mouth-feel, layered with Tropical fruit, citrus, and minerality. Good acidity on a medium plus finish. A white that should age incredibly well with a storage life of 10-30 years, but showing well already. 90% Sauvignon Blanc, 5% Semillion, 5% Sauvignon Gris. 93 points.
Sehr muskulös, typische vegetale Noten im Gaumen. Ab in den Keller!

The 2008 Smith-Haut-Lafitte, which is somewhat reminiscent of the brilliant 1998, exhibits sweet cassis, tobacco leaf, earth, and barbecue characteristics in its complex aromatics. This expressive red shows intensity with grace, balancing pure black cherry, mineral and tobacco flavors with toasty oak and fresh acidity. This is unquestionably the finest wine yet made under the new, highly dedicated Cathiard regime (who purchased this estate at the beginning of the decade). The 1995, which was impressive when tasted in March, 1996, continues to suggest it is going to be a terrific wine for the vintage. The opaque purple color, and sweet, blackcurrant nose intermixed with aromas of smoke, minerals, and high quality new oak, are followed by a layered, gracefully constructed wine with well-integrated tannin, exceptional purity, a sweet inner-core of fruit, and a long finish. Purchasers of this wine should cellar it for 4-6 years. Anticipated maturity: 2002-2025. Impressive!!
