90% cabernet sauvignon 10% merlot. Aged for 18 months in 95% new French oak barrels other 5% of barrels are one year old. Lower yields (down by about 20%) have led to increased concentration compared to previous vintages. Harvest started with merlot on Sep 29 and ended with Cabernet on Oct 14. 13.95% alcohol. Aromas of black fruit burst from the glass complemented by notes of wild herbs and a touch of spice. Extremely captivating on the nose I kept swirling the wine while marveling at the complexity of aromas. On the palate the wine is lush complex and incredibly well structured even at this youthful stage. The bright acidity brought on by a cooler but sunny growing season is evident on the palate keeping the wine lively on the palate even while dark purple fruits dominate. The tannins are amazing lush and well-integrated providing the wine with tremendous length and grip. Lingers on the palate. This is a muscular impressive release from Ducru. Drink from 2020-2040. Pontet Canet Produced from an assemblage of 65% Cabernet Sauvignon 30% Merlot 4% Cabernet Franc and 1% Petit Verdot yields were down 10% from 2009. Inky black in color the wine stains the sides of the glass. Cassis stone forest floor tobacco and cedar aromas effortlessly pop from the glass. This fills your mouth with flavor. Very dark crimson. Subtle fresh with really intense scents and wonderful fluidity. Complete. Exciting. Like purple flowers. Long and rich. Great fan of flavours. 18/20 Jancis Robinson.
Château Pontet-Canet's estate finds itself in the heart of Pauillac's Appelation. In 1975, the reputable cognac collector and me r chant , Guy Tesseron, became its new owner and today, his sons Alfred and Gérard have carried on his legacy and have progressively restructured the estate. Starting with a model vat house: influenced by the Eiffel style and constructed at the end of the nineteenth century, the oak vat room was revolutionary for its time as it was designed on two floors enabling the harvest to be received on the top floor and thus to be poured by gravity into the vats below. Inspired by its innovation, 2005 has given way for a new vat room unique to the Médoc, still respecting the gravity concept yet modern. The Inox vats have moved on and left room for smaller cone-shaped cement vats, enabling a vinification in smaller volumes and therefore a better selection thus more precision.
90% Cabernet Sauvignon. Same analysis as last year but very different from the 2009 - indeed very different from all recent vintages of Ducru - a return to something drier and more classical. It s all about the quality of tannins according to Bruno Borie. Very firm and solid and confident - all from terroir. You could stick a spoon up in it but in a good way. Drier and more grown-up than in some previous years. Very long term. Perfect for those who seek something really serious. 18 out of 20. Jancis Robinson.
