Food Pairings for Hauts de Pontet 2nd Wine Pontet Canet
Tasting with a bunch of 2006s, so maybe it felt unbelievably smooth because of the extra years' aging. An alluring open nose with lots of fruit. Sweet fruit compote flavors on the palate. Evolved tannins. Voluptuous - evolves in the mouth. The fruit is even lush and sweet. Very very good wine with a great finish.
A wine to celebrate.

Château Pontet-Canet's estate finds itself in the heart of Pauillac's Appelation. In 1975, the reputable cognac collector and me r chant , Guy Tesseron, became its new owner and today, his sons Alfred and Gérard have carried on his legacy and have progressively restructured the estate. Starting with a model vat house: influenced by the Eiffel style and constructed at the end of the nineteenth century, the oak vat room was revolutionary for its time as it was designed on two floors enabling the harvest to be received on the top floor and thus to be poured by gravity into the vats below. Inspired by its innovation, 2005 has given way for a new vat room unique to the Médoc, still respecting the gravity concept yet modern. The Inox vats have moved on and left room for smaller cone-shaped cement vats, enabling a vinification in smaller volumes and therefore a better selection thus more precision.
Floral notes intermixed with raspberries, black currants, minerals, and a hint of new oak emerge from the dense purple-colored 2000 Ducru-Beaucaillou. The wine is sweet, dense, and medium to full-bodied, with undeniable elegance and finesse as well as a finish that lasts for 45+ seconds. A wine of remarkable symmetry, balance, elegance, and minerality, it is the Lafite-Rothschild of St.-Julien,. Anticipated maturity: 2010ndash;2030+.
Bright ruby-red, less saturated than the 2002. Very pure aromas of cassis, minerals and mocha, with a hint of raw berries. Juicy, pure and tightly wound, with intense flavors of dark berries, bitter chocolate, espresso and licorice. Broadens impressively on the long, aromatic, suave finish, showing lovely grip and class. Finer than Boriersquo;s 2000 Grand Puy Lacoste and in need of longer aging but not clearly stronger.
Gorgeous color of dark purple with reddish edges. Complex nose of blueberry, boysenberry, toasty vanilla oak and faints hints of fresh mint at the edges of the nose. Cassis and oak are surrounded by strong yet well-balanced juicy tannins. Mike Supple. A Bordeaux Blend wine from Bordeaux in France. 2005 Pontet-Canet 1500ml
The 2001 is a medium-bodied, pure example displaying notes of red and black currants intermixed with minerals, spice box, and hints of cedar as well as toast. A late harvest (October 1ndash;12) produced a surprisingly fruit-driven, pure, up-front 2001 Ducru. Xavier Borie thinks this blend of 68% Cabernet Sauvignon, 30% Merlot, and 2% Cabernet Franc is ldquo;better than the 1999, riper, denser, and fuller.rdquo; When tasted next to the 1999, the only difference is a firmer style of tannin in the 2001, whereas the 1999 is pure charm and elegance. Anticipated maturity: 2005ndash;2016.
A stunning wine from Ducru Beaucaillou which showcases its great terroir, this elegant but substantial 2000 has a dense purple color that has hardly budged since it was first bottled. Displaying a floral note, with hints of boysenberries, black raspberries, black currants and a touch of background oak, the wine has superb concentration and density, but still has some substantial tannins that are not yet fully resolved. I originally predicted that it should be drinkable from 2010ndash;2030, but I would modify that now to 2015ndash;2035.
Bright medium ruby. Deep, superripe aromas of dark berries, black cherry and bitter chocolate; slightly exotic crystallized fruit aspect. Dense, sweet and wonderfully rich; a lovely combination of palate-caressing chocolately fruit and firm underlying structure. Finishes with excellent grip and great palate-saturating sweetness. Another outstanding 1996 Meacute;doc wine in the making. Drink 2010 through 2030.
