Hauner Red Blend Salina IGT Hiera 2009

Member Review by c1scottc:

Just had the 2006 Hauner Calabrese last night at La Ciccia, an excellent Sardinian restaurant in SF's Noe Valley (30th/Church Sts.). This wine was delicious. A nicely spicy nose that balanced light earthiness with soft notes of floral and herbal influences made me widen the smile that began moments earlier when I swirled the pomegranite red wine in my glass. Smooth! That was the word that we all agreed made this wine match so well the varied sardinian dishes we ordered. We were sorry to empty the bottle -- and not at all surprised to find a fair amount of sediment at its bottom. Those spicy/earthy/floral flavors had to come from somewhere. This wine melds so many flavors so well that I could drink it serveral nights a month and never grow tired of it -- if only I could find it in San Francisco. La Ciccia sold it for $41. I see that it was available for $14 retail. At that price, I'd buy two cases and enjoy it all the more for the amazing bargain it represents. 93/100 on the 'Scott Scale' that includes taste, value, presentation from first pour, through odor, to last sip.

A golden color in the glass with a floral nose showing white flowers, lemon grass and honeysuckle. Semi-sweet and rich on the palate but with wonderful finesse showing grapefruit, figs and earth. A nice fresh finish.
