Hartwell Vineyards Cabernet Sauvignon Stags Leap District Estate Grown 2002

Winemaker's Notes:

TASTING NOTES The 2002 growing season was superb, with relatively cool temperatures and several well-timed heat spikes that pushed ripening. The weather, our unique hillside location, and aging in new French oak barrels ensured rich color and fully ripe flavors for our 100% Cabernet Sauvignon. The premiere offering from our estate vineyard is a multi-layered, deep, ripe wine with plenty of complexity and generosity. Intense aromas of blackberries, currants, cassis and fig rise up from the glass, marrying with notes of clove, incense, and smoke. The mouth feel is equally as generous, coating the palate with full but soft tannins, and flavors of ripe berries and black cherry. The sensation lingers on the palate, with a classic contribution of French oak and layers of spice and jammy fruit. This wine is approachable now, yet will continue to gain complexity and grace with age. REVIEWS "Rich, supple and harmonious, with layers of blackberry, currant and dusty berry fruit shaded by light toasty oak and supported by firm, ripe, fine-grained tannins. Needs time for the cedary oak to works its way into the center, but should be superb in a couple of years. Best from 2007 through 2012." -- Wine Spectator, June 30, 2005 Appellation: Stag's Leap District Vineayrds: 100% Estate Grown Varietal Composition: 100% Cabernet Sauvignon Produced: 740 cases

Bob Hartwell's passion for wine stems from his decades as an avid collector. Bob, a fourth generation Californian, has over thirty years of success in the aerospace and plumbing industries. As a successful manufacturer of quality products, Bob has never been a stranger to striving for quality over quantity at any cost. He has always known that the best quality materials result in the best quality products. Bob's obsession with producing the best didn't stop at the manufacturing plant. Bob knew that fulfilling the dream of owning his own vineyard meant finding the best place to grow the best Cabernet Sauvignon. With the help of a respected wine consultant, he found the property he had been searching for. The unplanted hillside in the Stag's Leap District, now Hartwell Estate, was the birthplace of his dream. Dick Grace shared his Bouche Clone from Grace Family Vineyards, and collaborated with Bob on Hartwell's very first production. In 1990 after 22 months in new French oak barrels, the wine, 100% Cabernet Sauvignon, was released with explosive success. This established the tradition of quality and style that continues to distinguish Hartwell wines. In addition to making great wine, Blanca and Bob Hartwell are dedicated to the tradition of charitable giving. Their ongoing philanthropic efforts are instrumental to organizations that improve the lives of children. Read less

Coconut Rice Sweet Potato Cheesecake

RiceSelect's creamy Arborio gets blended with sweet potato, coconut milk and vanilla to create this decadent cheesecake. Pairs well with Saunternes; a white dessert wine that has hints of coconut from aging in oak barrels.
