User Reviews for Hartwell Vineyards Cabernet Sauvignon Stags Leap District Estate Grown

TASTING NOTES The 2002 growing season was superb, with relatively cool temperatures and several well-timed heat spikes that pushed ripening. The weather, our unique hillside location, and aging in new French oak barrels ensured rich color and fully ripe flavors for our 100% Cabernet Sauvignon. The premiere offering from our estate vineyard is a multi-layered, deep, ripe wine with plenty of complexity and generosity. Intense aromas of blackberries, currants, cassis and fig rise up from the glass, marrying with notes of clove, incense, and smoke. The mouth feel is equally as generous, coating the palate with full but soft tannins, and flavors of ripe berries and black cherry. The sensation lingers on the palate, with a classic contribution of French oak and layers of spice and jammy fruit. This wine is approachable now, yet will continue to gain complexity and grace with age. REVIEWS "Rich, supple and harmonious, with layers of blackberry, currant and dusty berry fruit shaded by light toasty oak and supported by firm, ripe, fine-grained tannins. Needs time for the cedary oak to works its way into the center, but should be superb in a couple of years. Best from 2007 through 2012." -- Wine Spectator, June 30, 2005 Appellation: Stag's Leap District Vineayrds: 100% Estate Grown Varietal Composition: 100% Cabernet Sauvignon Produced: 740 cases
