- Bright full ruby. Aromas of currant, plum, mocha, brown spices, menthol and licorice, with a floral topnote. Lush, pliant and sweet, with soil-inflected flavors of cassis, tobacco leaf and loam. Finishes with suave tannins and very good length. Satisfying, seamless merlot.

- Clearly one of the tastiest Merlot to come out of the Napa Valley since the debut Blackbird 2003 (VF98). Hartwell winemaker, Benoit Touquette, and consultant Andy Erickson, have dialed in excellent richness and definition to this 100% Merlot, 100% estate wine. The nose is finely formed showing aromas of black cherry, and spicy blackberry compote. The palate is supple, with interwoven layers of blackberry, chocolate and spice. Good acidity keeps the wine from feeling heavy.
