Food Pairings for Hartford Zinfandel Russian River Valley Highwire Vineyard
This is a zin that needs some time, there are good components but it is a little unbalanced right now. My experience with this Hartford zin (used to be a club member) is that needs a year after it is available before it really shows off.
Similiar in profile to the RRV. Dark fruit, bosenberry, zinberry, mint, bakers spice and chocolate on the nose. Picked up some concentration and some VA after the first 1 hour. This is a wine that needs to be opened in advance to maximize expression of components, but drinking very nicely now. Would buy more.
External Reviews for Hartford Zinfandel Russian River Valley Highwire Vineyard
Inky purple. Highly perfumed aromas of raspberry, cherry, Asian spices and potpourri, with a note of cracked pepper in the background. Juicy, precise and palate-staining, with impressively deep red fruit liqueur flavors giving way to darker fruits with air. Rich but surprisingly light on its feet, finishing with excellent clarity and persistence. These vines are reportedly 96 years old.
The 2009 Zinfandel Highwire Vineyard is the only parcel of the Hartford Zinfandels where 50% of the vineyard is head-pruned 99-year old Zinfandel and the balance is wire-trained, which is unusual. It exhibits a beautiful floral berry note, a Pinot Noir-like delicacy and sensibility, medium to full-bodied flavors and stunning purity, fleshiness and texture. Like its siblings, it is complex, supple textured, full-bodied, and a tour de force in Zinfandel wine production. It should drink nicely for 5andndash;7 years.
A Zinfandel wine from California in USA. 2004 Hartford Family Winery Zinfandel Highwire Vineyard 750ml
92 points Antonio Galloni (Wine Advocate): A wine of considerable muscle and depth, the 2011 Zinfandel Highwire Vineyard stands apart for its plushness and richness. Layers of dark, floral-infused red/black hued fruit saturate the palate. The 2011 is gorgeous today, but it should also age nicely for at least a handful of years. The Highwire is one of the more overtly fruit-driven Zinfandels in this range. Anticipated maturity: 2014-2021. (Apr 2013)
