Vintage: 2012 06/01/2015

The 2012 Zinfandel Russian River, their largest production cuvee (over 2,500 cases), was aged in 20% new French oak for nine months, then bottled unfined and unfiltered. It tips the scales at 15% alcohol. It exhibits an opaque blue/purple color along with plenty of briery, berry fruit intermixed with hints of incense, Christmas fruitcake and spice. This exuberant, richly fruity, full-bodied Zin can be drunk over the next 4–5 years.

Tightly focused, with a sleek, vibrant structure, offering aromas of wild flowers and raspberry and lively but firm flavors of boysenberry, licorice and loamy spice. Drink now through 2021. 1,500 cases made.

The 2010 Zinfandel Russian River Valley is a big, exuberant wine bursting with dark black fruit, spices, mint and tobacco. This luscious Zinfandel is an excellent choice for drinking over the next few years. High-toned floral notes add lift and freshness on the finish. I especially like the way the wine turns more elegant and finessed with time in the glass. Anticipated maturity: 2012–2017.

Sleek yet densely structured, with boysenberry, mineral and anise aromas that lead to layered, focused flavors of tart plum, white pepper and herb. Drink now through 2020.

Loud and boisterous with dark, jammy, brambly fruits meandering with lots of spice and some brighter herb notes. Nice menthol qualities, and some good smoke in there, too. Loud now, it should age into a more mature, elegant wine in the near future.

Glass-staining ruby. Spicy red and dark berry aromas are complicated by floral and smoke accents, with a hint of vanilla in the background. Juicy and precise in the mouth, showing understated blackberry and cherry flavors that gain sweetness with air. A graceful rendition of zin that finishes with very good clarity and energy.

This shows a distinctive sense of place, featuring aromas of huckleberry and fresh underbrush, as well as complex, potent flavors of berry cobbler, minerals and roasted sage. Needs time. Best from 2013 through 2017.
