Hartford Court Chardonnay Sonoma Coast Stone Cote Vineyard 2014

Winemaker's Notes:

95-97 points Robert Parker: The 2014 Chardonnay Stone Côte is actually a tiny parcel within the more famous and larger Durell Vineyard. Like most of these wines, indigenous yeast fermentations are encouraged, and the wine is 100% barrel-fermented and aged completely in French oak with the percentage of new oak generally ranging from the upper 30 percentile to 50% or so. This wine is a terrific example of Chardonnay, with a greenish hue to its light straw color and a stunning nose of tropical fruit, citrus oil and orange blossom. It is full-bodied, has great acidity and delicious up-front fruit. This will be a killer Chardonnay when released next year. (Oct 2015)

High Personality Wines Making delicious wines of high personality is directly related to the difficult locations of our vineyard sources, the limited production of our bottlings and the varietals we use. "Character through adversity" is an expression that we believe applies to people and grapevines and surviving adversity builds character, and personality, in both. Single-Vineyard and Limited Bottlings Small and low-yielding vineyards deliver meager amounts of expressive and personality-rich wine. Our single-vineyard Hartford Court Pinot Noirs and Chardonnays total as few as 93 cases up to about 800 cases. Likewise, our Hartford Old-Vine Zinfandels are produced in small quantities. Pinot Noir We love Pinot Noir and in many years make about eight of them with fruit from the Russian River Valley, Sonoma Coast, Green Valley, Carneros and Anderson Valley appellations. We feel that Pinot Noir makes the most seductive red wine, notable for its supple, silky texture. Pinot Noir is also known for expressing vineyard site characteristics in a transparent manner. Chardonnay Cool climate Sonoma Coast and Russian River Valley Chardonnay vineyards are singularly expressive. Those that are planted with multiple clones, specially matched to their sites, also reflect the distinctive terroir in these high-risk, high-reward locations. Old-Vine Zinfandel Our 80-100 year old Zinfandel vineyards are irreplaceable treasures - and we source our vineyard designated Russian River Valley Zinfandels (150-500 cases) from some of the oldest Zinfandel vineyards in California. The complexity and depth of flavors from these vineyards produce the most consistently bold and unctuous Zinfandels found anywhere. Read less

The 2010 Chardonnay Stone Cote Vineyard from a block in the Durell Vineyard caresses the palate with dried apricots wild flowers honey tangerine and spices. It shows lovely roundness and finesse through to the creamy inviting finish. This is a fairly lush fruit-driven style of Chardonnay. Anticipated maturity: 2012-2016. -Antonio Galloni Robert Parkers Wine Advocate.

Even better than the Four Hearts is the 2006 Chardonnay Stone Cote, a compelling Chardonnay with glorious notes of crushed rocks, white currants, nectarine, and white peach emerging from its superbly nuanced, full-bodied style. The wine has restraint, but effortless concentration and richness as well as impeccable balance. It is best drunk in its next several years of life.

Hazy yellow-gold. Smoky, leesy orange and pear aromas give way to white peach and floral honey with air, but maintain energy. Rich and chewy, with deep orchard and pit fruit flavors braced by zesty orange and lime qualities that carry through the long, powerful finish. Plenty open today but therersquo;s enough material here to reward cellaring.
