The nose on this big, complex wine is smokey at launch, with notes of plum, raspberry, cherry, vanilla, chocolate, toffee and paprika in tow. Woodsy tones follow, with hints of juniper, grass and rosemary in a complex array of layers that open over 30 minutes. The palate is slightly peppery on the attack, with brief astringency, followed by arrays of carmel, crème brulee, dark fruits, spicy plum and emerging cherry, vanilla, chocolate, and toffee undertones. Our guess is that this exquisite wine could use another 2 years in the cellar to match its 2004 vintage, which, although rated lower by R.P., is currently more explosive and scrumtious.
