Harris Estate Vineyards Cabernet Sauvignon Napa Valley Lakeview 2004

Winemaker's Notes:

The biggest and boldest of our trio of Cabernets, Treva's Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon comes from our hillside Vineyard. Known for it's rich, black fruits and fine tannins, this wine is a pleasure to drink! 94 POINTS - Robert Parker, The Wine Advocate Notes of ". . . spring flowers, blueberries, blackberries, crushed rocks, and coffee beans emerge from this opulent, dense, rich, terroir-based wine. Filled with character and richness, it should last for 14-16 years."

Prior to the Spanish, this land was the home of Wappo Indians who traded obsidian for arrowheads to neighboring Pomo Indians. In Calistoga, Schramsburg caves were hand chiseled by Chinese immigrant workers. Chateau Montelena is a wonderful example of 1800’s winery construction. There are records dating back to the early 1800s for our property. There is a natural spring on the property that became the source of riparian water rights for multiple properties in Calistoga. From what we know the original property was a farm of 100 acres which had a few owners and was eventually purchased in the 1950’s and became a private boys school. The school flourished in the 70s and 80’s having built a 3000 sq ft dormitory, a main school building with cafeteria, administration building, a head masters’ house and an original 1880 Victorian from down town Calistoga. A fire, divorce and lack of students resulted in closing of the school in the early 90’s. Michael Grgich purchased 52 acres of cleared land and then we came along in 1997. We had found the property on the internet, by which time the boys school had fallen into disrepair. We made an offer, prayed we would get it and then “oh no!” we got it. Everything needed repair especially the water system encased not in pvc or iron pipe, but some obscure polyethylene rubber that produced ongoing leaks that would drain our holding tank leaving us without water till fixed. We called it a project. Our friends called us crazy. “You must be out of your mind” the guys told me. “You’re so brave” Treva’s girl friends sympathized. Read less

Coconut Rice Sweet Potato Cheesecake

RiceSelect's creamy Arborio gets blended with sweet potato, coconut milk and vanilla to create this decadent cheesecake. Pairs well with Saunternes; a white dessert wine that has hints of coconut from aging in oak barrels.
