Harlan Estate Red Bordeaux Blend Napa Valley the Maiden 2007
From the outset, we have taken great satisfaction in the slow but continuous evolution of the estate— and in watching the wines become increasingly pleasing and complex. Over time, we have also seen our younger vines reach a level of maturity capable of producing wonderful wines, even if they were not quite ready for the final Harlan Estate blend. We felt these lots, along with other components not utilized in our flagship wine, deserved a label of their own. Beginning with the 1995 vintage, we bottled a small number of cases under the name The Maiden. Grown and vinified to the same exacting standards as Harlan Estate, The Maiden is a highly detailed and sumptuous wine, remarkably faithful to the vineyard’s pedigree.
Set in the western hills of Oakville, rising above the tabled Napa Valley benchlands, the estate is over 240 acres of natural .splendor; oak-studded knolls and valleys, roughly fifteen percent of which are under vine, planted to the classic varietals; Cabernet Sauvignon. Merlot. Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdoc. But more than that it is a family homestead; a place of great inspiration, carved from the raw land, built for generations.

The 2000 The Maiden reflects the softness and easy-going nature of the vintage. Attractive in a fruit-driven, earthy style with notions of dried herbs intermixed with espresso roast, cappuccino, white chocolate, and black currants, this modestly-endowed, evolved 2000 is best consumed over the next 8-10 years.
As outstanding as the 2008 is, it is eclipsed by the brilliant 2007 The Maiden, perhaps the finest second wine yet made here. ...Spicy, brooding aromas of black- and redcurrant, licorice, mocha and toasty oak. Impressively ripe and rich; very backward yet conveys an impression of low acidity. Finishes firm but with thoroughly lush tannins. Stephen Tanzer's IWC. A Proprietary Blend wine from California in USA. 2000 Harlan Estate The Maiden 750ml
If we could split this bottle in 3, we'd do so cause there's not enough to go around. We got a mere case of this rare red from Harlan. Melbury comes from a "Grand Cru" vineyard, hillside estate located northeast of Rutherford. Deep concentration of red and black fruit. Full of New World finesse.

93 Points "Tightly wound, firm and concentrated, with a chewy core of dried currant, cedar, anise and mineral, yet for all its austerity there's a wonderful beam of ripe dark fruit that gains depth, nuance and length. Impressive for its structure and depth." Wine Spectator, Nov 15, 2009, James Laube
The deep ruby/purple-tinged 2006 The Maiden reveals notes of coffee, damp earth, black currants, and smoky black cherries. In keeping with the vintage character, it is slightly more tannic, angular, and austere than the 2005. While it will not be as ... Robert Parker's Wine Advocate.
